Obama rejects criticism of his agenda as "socialism"

President Barack Obama launched a vigorous defense of his economic agenda on Wednesday, rejecting critics who call his policies "socialism" and insisting he aims to boost U.S. competitiveness abroad.

Speaking to the Business Roundtable, which groups some of the country's top chief executives, Obama called for support of his administration's efforts to overhaul financial regulation, revamp the health insurance industry and create jobs.

"Contrary to the claims of some of my critics and some of the editorial pages, I am an ardent believer in the free market," Obama said in remarks that were set against a backdrop of unease in the business community about his economic policies and legislative priorities.

Businesses -- and opposition Republicans -- are wary of the Obama administration's regulatory zeal in areas such as healthcare and energy policy, and worry about a perceived tendency to increase spending rather than lower taxes.

They point to Trent Lott, who stepped down as majority leader in 2002 after suggesting that the U.S. might have been better off had segregationist Strom Thurmond won the 1948 presidential election. Reid's comment wasn't a call for race-based policy.

Instead, Reid was characterizing racial attitudes among voters today, saying in 2008 that Obama's lighter skin tone and "no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one" would make him more electable.  Reid has apologized, and Obama has accepted.

Google won't remove distorted Michelle Obama image from search engine

A crudely altered photograph of Michelle Obama, which often comes up as the first result on a Google image search of her name, will not be removed from the company's search process despite protests that the depiction is racist and repugnant.

"It's offensive to many people, but that alone is not a reason to remove it from our search index," Google spokesman Scott Rubin said.  "We have, in general, a bias toward free speech."

The image, which depicts the first lady as having monkey-like features, is posted on a blog called "Hot Girls" without explanation.  The blog post also contains several legitimate photographs of Michelle Obama.  (The image is also posted on other sites that get high spots.)

Anti-Obama billboard stirs controversy

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - Call it Freedom of Speech.  A billboard recently erected in Wheat Ridge compares President Barack Obama to a terrorist and questions his U.S. citizenship.

The billboard, located at 4855 Miller Road, shows two cartoonish images of Obama wearing a Muslim turban and reads "PRESIDENT or JIHAD?"

It also says "BIRTH CERTIFICATE - PROVE IT!" alluding to the conspiracy theory which claims Barack Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii, which would disqualify him for the office of President.

The words "WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD!" appears on the bottom of the billboard.

Thoughts of the week

I am sorry I have not posted much lately, but it is hunting season and construction work is leveling off for the year.

I have to say that Obama has done an awesome job getting those jobs saved and the stimulus money to the local governments. 

What did they do with the money?  Saved government jobs and plugged budget holes with it.

10% unemployment and still on the rise!

The stock market is doing good so my 401k is getting back up.

We now hear that the money we gave GM, we might not get back!

Obama is getting his wish!

Remember Obama likes high energy prices and that includes oil.  He just didn’t like how fast they shot up before. 

The Obama Administration is so in bed with companies like General Electric, that want to control the solar and wind energy business that they allowing the price of oil to go through the roof so that people will clamor for alternative energy development.

Looks like Obama's Oil Buddies are set up to start raking in our hard-earned dollars.

I wonder if the people that blamed Bush for the run up in oil prices during his term are now blaming Obama for oils 76% price increase in 2009?

Obama's EPA is blocking coal-mining permits and get ready for your electricity to skyrocket as the GREEEN people drive up the cost of EVERYTHING.

Coal is more than 50% of our electricity and there is not clean energy to replace it.

Bush wanted to drill in the gulf and ANWAR in 2000,,the congress was balanced and these greenies blocked it and we would be energy independent if these environmentalist would get out of the way.  WE HAVE oil, coal, and natural gas!  We could be energy independent NOW.

If we regulated the oil market such that the buyer had to take delivery of the oil before selling, prices would be kept under better control.

Oil is rising due to the dollar being worthless due to our ever-growing debt and our current congress spending money they don’t have and proposing even more debt.

The Yuan being tied to the dollar isn't helping either.

Just want will this do to the recovery?

Of course.  Every little thing affects the recovery.  The jobless rate is the biggest drag on the economy, but Obama doesn't have the time to address that one yet.  So didn’t the stimulus promise to create jobs?
 
Not only the people actually on unemployment.  When you factor in the people on welfare (or a welfare-like government transfer payment) who don't actually produce a widget, actual unemployment rivals the Great Depression.  We must have 60 million potential American workers sitting on the sidelines these days.

A whopping 46 percent say they don't know enough about Obama's proposals to decide whether to support or oppose them, among those who have an opinion, 30 percent favor the proposals and 23 percent oppose the reforms.

64 percent say Republican leaders oppose health care reform for political purposes, while just 27 percent think Republicans actually believe reform would be bad for the country.  And 65 percent of Americans support the public option, with 26% opposed.

Why the Obama Administration Will Implode In Weeks

1. Health Care's Long and Painful Death

Barring the existing possibility that the Democrats cram a reform bill down the throats of actively protesting Americans through an ultra-partisan process that would shut out conservatives and Republicans from even being allowed to contribute to the discussion, health care reform is dead.

2. Cap-and-Trade Will Be the Largest Tax Increase in American History

With the 2010 election cycle just around the corner, it won't be too long before the campaign ads are drafted.  With cap-and-trade still sitting in legislative limbo (and the president's own adviser--Warren Buffet-- now opposing it openly in the media), with anti-tax Democrats, Republicans, and Independents coming to Washington on September 12, and with "Blue Dog" Democrats getting hammered by constituents during the August recess, the chance of an ultra-partisan "ram through" victory on the legislation would not be wise.

Cap-and-trade, if passed, will contribute to unemployment, Wall Street stop and starts, and ultimately reduced treasury revenues.  It would serve as the single largest tax increase on the average American in all of American history.

Even President Obama admitted as much, predicting that electric bill prices, in his words, would, "skyrocket.”  Those that have looked at the specifics tell us that the average utility bill in America will go from $167 to $307 per month, per family.

3. Unemployment Will Remain

By now several Washington organizations, from left and right, and one of note consisting of both--the Congressional Budget Office, predict that unemployment will not shrink from the predicted "Obama high" of eight percent.  Instead, nearly without fail, economists are predicting that unemployment will be at or over 10% for up to the next 24 months.-- That is a nearly 250% increase in the unemployment rate under Bush for nearly the duration of his two-term presidency.  We did not see the unemployment climb this high during President Bush's entire two-term presidency.

4. Obama's Integrity Has Been Tarnished in August

Not a great deal has been made of the whoppers that the president has been spewing while Congress has been away during the summer recess but it turns out that more people than I realized have also noticed the president wildly "exaggerating" in his talks on health care.  For instance, the president confused the $500 physicians actually get to amputate a foot as opposed to the $50,000 that he claimed they got.  He also showed an utter disregard for the reputation of those doctors he talks about, the "facts" he uses to make his argument, and is highly overly optimistic about the results of his policies.  Long story short, at the beginning of the summer Americans mostly trusted him, his passion index was at +10, he heads into the fall at -14.

5. A $3 Trillion Dollar Budget

There was lots of new spending for this and it sure added up. And that brings me to number 6.

6. A Coming Middle Class Tax Hike

The Obama administration will hem and haw about hiking taxes. -- There will be an official, and arrogant, explanation given by Robert Gibbs from the podium in the White House briefing room about why they must to do this to be "good stewards" and to be a "responsible administration" that "pays as it goes."

But the truth is, in order to pay for everything the Obama administration has promised (and budgeted for), a tax hike is looming for small businesses and the working families that President Obama promised would never come.

In recent weeks, his numbers have continued to fall.  This report also shows 53% of Americans do not want his health care plan, while 42% approve of the Democrat proposed health care plan.

In other polls, the numbers are close.  At Quinnipiac University President Obama is at 50% approval, while at Gallup its 53% approval.

Bush was always ripped to shreds on Saturday night live in cartoon as Hitler.  The Far Left Loons had no problem depicting Bush as an idiot, a buffoon, a terrorist, etc.... Geez, a double standard?

It was fine to represent President Bush as a monkey, devil, etc.  Compared to some of the movies Democrats and liberals put out about President Bush this is light humor.  They even were teaching children that President Bush worshipped the devil in college.  As to the Socialism, I can only think of Hugo Chavez and the support Obama gives him and his socialists’ friends.

But let someone express an opinion about the frightening dude we now call president and all the democrats call "foul".  That is not fair or it is racist!  Racist this, racist that.

Liberals can dish it out, but they sure as hell can't take it.  With all the trash talk the left did with Bush, shouldn’t they expect some trash talk in return?  Double standard, isn't it?  The whole media tried to brain wash everyone against Bush.  Cartoons, comedy sketches, sarcastic commentaries, idiots like David Letterman!  So what's the big deal now?  They are trying to track down who put up this sketch.  What happens then?  Does the Gestapo come and take them away?  Wouldn't they be better off ignoring it and just focusing on the mess Obama has us in and fixing it?  So what, he's got a disturbing sketch of him as the joker....the joker was a deceiver, a person with no conscience or care for anyone but himself and his own glorification, he felt the world had wronged him...so they are saying this is Obama.  Don't they have that right to say what they want?  MOVE ON.

On the left racist front to the picture, last time I checked, disagreeing with someone's policies doesn't make a person racist.  Voting for a man just because he's black, siding with someone who is in the wrong just because he is black, these are the actions of a racist.  Since when are jokers racist????  Thought that was KKK hoods.

This is protected under the first amendment.  Whether or not you agree, it IS freedom of speech, so people need to just get over it.  Remember it’s called Freedom of the press - sometimes too much freedom can come back and bite you in the butt!!!  Hey, it's still a free country.  Of course, that may be gone soon too.

Don’t forget that Obama called an entire police department stupid.  Seems to me that was much more "mean spirited".

Obama seems confident of his health plan for Americans and promises efficiency, but critics claim his plan comes with some potential harm.  A republican Senator noted that there has been pressure for the plan that is "intense, bordering on extortion."

Critics point out that the Health Care plan will cause headaches for those including, but not limited: the youth, seniors and those with Medicare Advantage, small businesses, and Health Savings Account holders (HSA).

Barack Obama's administration has said they will release the budget deficit reviews in August.  The current estimate for this year's total budget deficit is $1.841 trillion.

Critics have been attacking this move, claiming the timing adds much-needed help for Obama to push his health care plan.  Yet, Obama's administration claims that they are only doing what previous administrations have done by pushing back the review date.

I don’t know a lot about computers, just enough that I can get myself in trouble and have been told not to say ‘Computer Savvy’ as that means you don’t know when to stop and call people that do know what they are doing.  I didn’t understand why America didn’t already have something like this in place.  I know the DOD has computer experts, but we don’t have the protection in place for the infrastructure.

Yes, I do fully understand this is making the government bigger, but this can be rolled into homeland security when a Republican president takes over.

I don’t think you would see many people on the left ever giving President Bush the thumbs up on a decision he made besides the first responses of 9/11 when as a nation we came together.

Obama and the Truth For Liberals - Part B

I'm all for being bi-partisan, but the dems in D.C. have shown no wish and have no need to get the GOP on their side.  They have the majority and can/will dictate whatever policies they wish.  So why are they so hell bent on trying to get the support of the Republicans?  Because the left knows it will fail and they don’t want all the blame.

Obama talks a good game (which is why he got elected), but he has shown nothing thus far to turning things around in this country.  He still has a long leash on him, but there is only so much time that a politician can continue to say, "These problems aren't going to go away overnight".  Eventually the accountability will shift to THIS administration and the U.S. will do what it always does, search for a new candidate to solve their problems.

This recession was coming no matter which party was in charge.  The housing crisis started with Clinton and Carter.  He pushed for easier mortgage loans to those who could not reasonably afford them.  Bush turned a blind eye for the first 5-6 years but then tried to pass legislation when it started to become a political issue but the Democratic Congress wouldn't pass it, again for political reasons (you can find all this out through research).

Both parties are at fault.  Each trying to top the other for political gain and power while the American people sit idly by getting screwed over at every turn in the name of their favorite party...Democrats & Republicans.

Housing, Industry, Banking....it was a house of cards built up over the last 20-30 years by every Presidency, and it was coming down no matter who was in charge.  The bigger question is...Who can rebuild it, who can do it the quickest, who can do it with the best foundation?  Is it Obama, is it a Democrat, is it a Republican, or is it someone we do not yet know of?

The far right is what is wrong with America.  Only Obama and the Dems can fix this!  I hear that kind of BS all the time from libs.  Libs think all conservatives whether independent are all a bunch of gun toting bible hugging people like Obama hinted to in his no infamous gaffe with the mic during the campaign trail.

He's turned in a black Bush some on the left are saying.  Pro war, pro big business, anti-openness, anti-civil and criminal rights, anti-Muslim, anti-Constitution, etc.  Once again, America fell for talk over substance.  How long before we realized Nader was right, there are two wings of the corporate party, and the election only determines which corporations control the government?

I didn't vote for him because I don’t share his views on social policies, gitmo, the war on terror, and his income redistribution.  Because Obama is a liberal and I am a conservative.

Besides those differences, I back my president and my country until such time as they show me a reason why not.

So far I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised (minus that when he opens his mouth the market dips), which I can read has really been chapping the hides of his lib supporters.

-His stance on Iraq was different then his campaign

-his stance on prosecuting Bush era for things is encouraging

-his stance on gitmo tribunals

-his stance with the car company bailouts

-his stance on gay marriage

-his stance on credit card companies and their practices

The gitmo stance of will he close it or not is so much like will Brett Favre retire or play.  I am so sick of it!

The human race must evolve from each stage.  If Marx/Engels are correct, then the United States has just begun the throes of revolution that will lead us to the next ideal on this hemisphere's rosy path to communism.

President Barack Obama has approved plans for the U.S. to help the United Arab Emirates become the first Arab nation with a nuclear power industry.

In a document released by the White House on Wednesday, Obama said the nuclear cooperation agreement is in U.S. interests.  The State Department will send the nuclear power cooperation agreement to Congress, which has 90 days to either amend or reject the deal.

The UAE, a longtime ally in the Middle East, has pushed hard for U.S. support.  The country wants nuclear power by 2017 to meet its growing demand for electricity.  Although the emirates are flush with oil, they must import 60 percent of the natural gas they use to generate electricity.

For everyone who thinks that Bush did this to the economy with a Democrat congress, you have no idea how gov't works.  You know not the truth.  When will the dems stop talking about Bush?  He isn't the president anymore if you haven't noticed.

The first six years of Bush's economy was very strong, the decline is directly associated with the coming of Pelosi and Reid.  Truth is truth.  You can deny and fool yourselves all you want.

Congress is the only part of government that spends money. 

The congress has been controlled by democrats since 2006.  President Bush being a lame duck since 2004 did not do a good job on holding congress accountable for their spending since the congress could override any veto president Bush might impose.  Even your own party the Democrats said that when President Bush took office there was a surplus of 1 trillion dollars a gift by the Clinton administration thanks to a republican controlled congress. 

When President Bush left office, your party the Democrats said President Bush debt was 1.9 trillion dollars.  Of that 1.9 trillion 700 billion was passed by a Democratic controlled congress to bail out the banks plus the 400 billion dollar budget that your president Obama signed was credited to the Bush administration. 

By the way no Republicans voted for that 400 billion dollar budget because of the earmarks and double dipping the Democrats did between the 400 billion dollar budget and your president Obama's stimulus package of 785 billion by the way only 3 Republican (RINO’s) senators voted for the stimulus package and 1 of the 3 senators change himself into a Democrat.  The first conversion by your Messiah president Barack Hussin Obama. 

Actually, the legislature has been dominated by the Dems for much of the 20th century except for the periods of growth when the legislature was led by the Reps.  In over 60 years of Democratic Party control, we have seen a vast expansion of social programs, welfare, both individual and corporate and massive spending increases.  Under Reagan, the cutting of tax rates spurred economic growth and tax revenue generation however the democratic controlled legislature, rather than pay down the debt, ramped up spending. 

The CRA was created back in 1977 under Jimmy Carter's watch.  It was geared toward eliminating redlining of certain housing areas that did not permit people in these areas from getting financing.

It was Clinton in 1992-95 that continued to push more and more banking restrictions when it came to the CRA.  Eventually, banks had to make risky loans to meet their government obligations under the CRA.

Fannie & Freddie came into the game in 1992 and had to dedicate a certain percentage of their lending to support CRA. It hit $10 billion in CRA loans in 2001, with a goal of $500 billion by 2010.

I think we can guess, their not going to be reaching that milestone.  This isn't a Republican lie.

Now with Obummer, we see massively ramped up spending with no tax revenue generation so debt is escalating and I suspect the dems will ramp up tax rates, as that has always been their solution.  This will of course be labeled as "tax on the wealthy" so most will be blissfully unaware they are paying more taxes since most do not see the taxes come out of their paychecks.  Most have never had to make that quarterly tax check to the IRS so they do not understand how much in taxes they pay!

How much of your liberty are you liberals willing to turn over to Obama?  How much of your hard-earned money (for those of you that have jobs) are you willing to give to Obama?  These are serious questions. I don't want to tell my children that I remember when people could think for themselves and didn't need the gov't to do it for them.

OK, let’s give him some time.  When can we expect the 3.5 million new jobs he promised?  Next yr, the yr after?  We’ll talk about it in a year.  By then you and the rest of the left will be crawling under your collective rocks begging for somebody else to fix the problems.

And in case you didn't know this next tidbit, I'll say it loud for you........OBAMA IS SPENDING MORE MONEY THAN ANY HUMAN BEING IN HISTORY.

The top tax and spend states are on the verge of bankruptcy at this point.  With Obama's tax and spend ($1.8 Trillion deficit!) why would the country be anywhere different?  We are going bankrupt and Obama has put the pedal to the metal.

Woodstock Institute senior fellow Rev. Thomas Reese, associated with the University thinks it was more of a communications strategy than a theology issue.  Bishop University Victor Nakas felt more strongly against covering the symbol.

Nakas called Georgetown "the National University of the Catholic Church."

Joe’s answer makes no scene.  A faulty bridge?  Mass transit?  Smart Meters?  Yes, Joe that has to be it. That is why her business is on the decline.   It cannot be the Obama administration and their anti-business policies. Nor being missed in the pork laden stimulus package his party put together.  

      Well, Joe Biden who remembers watching the Depression on TV and is a mass transit supporter.  He has promised many elected officials how he is going to fund mass transit as his first priority.  (KRM comes to mind) along with 1.3 Billion with a “B” dollars for Amtrak.  

      Today (March 18, 2009) the Stimulus Czar in a speech to mayors seeking stimuli for their cities and Biden exclaimed “No swimming pools, no golf courses, and no Frisbee golf courses. I do not care if you can prove that this money will create jobs that will last year after year after year the answer is no, no, no, no, no.”

The Czar has spoken. 

   

    Interesting, if the money is going into a black hole of commuter rail, light rail or Amtrak Biden cannot spend it fast enough. Well, if it is monies for a community swimming pool or a public golf course which will provide jobs to build the facilities and jobs to operate he says NO!  

 

      Is it stimulus or payback.

    I just have another question “Did the Stimulus Czar get any campaign funds from AIG” And will there be a call for politicians to send the money back?

Teleprompter in Chief

There was an embarrassing teleprompter malfunction at the White House on Tuesday night.  Maybe you heard of it.  Only if you had talk radio on!

WASHINGTON -- Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen was just a few paragraphs into an address at a St. Patrick's Day celebration at the White House when he realized something sounded way too familiar.  Turns out, he was repeating the speech President Barack Obama had just given.

Cowen was set to speak twice at the White House on Tuesday night because there were two different parties going on at the executive mansion.  No matter — he would give the same speech to the two different audiences.

But Cowen was 20 seconds into his second address when it dawned on him that he was giving word for word the speech that Obama had just read from the same teleprompter.

Cowen stopped and looked back at the president to say, "That's your speech."

Obama laughed and returned to the podium to offer what might have been Cowen's remarks.  In doing so, President Obama thanked President Obama for inviting everyone over.

Funny?

Not really.  President Obama has made America the laughing stock of the world.  And this is the guy the world just had to have.  He is an idiot!

Obama certainly isn't personally responsible for the wrong speech being up on the teleprompter, but you'd think he'd be able to organize his staff in a manner that they could get it together and quit these embarrassing missteps.

Obama joked about the free-flowing bar and warned his guests not to wear lampshades on their heads in front of the cameras. He later went off his remarks to get laughs about Ireland's popular stout.

"Guinness tastes very different in Ireland," Obama said.  "It is much better.  You guys are keeping the good stuff for yourselves."

While talking with friends and fellow bloggers, the conversation came up that some on the left are already making a point that if you don’t watch Obama’s Inauguration you are a racist!

I am so tired of the left over using the cry of racism.

It is not racist if I choose not to watch Obama’s Inauguration, just as it is not if I choose not to watch 24 or Oprah.

Get over yourself and this insistent that racism is on the right!  Have you looked in the mirror lately?  Most of the real racism comes from the left!

I will not be watching it because I am choosing not to and since it is a free country for now, I have that choice.

2008 Military Times poll Wary about Obama

When asked how they feel about President-elect Barack Obama as commander in chief, six out of 10 active-duty service members say they are uncertain or pessimistic, according to a Military Times survey.

In follow-up interviews, respondents expressed concerns about Obama’s lack of military service and experience leading men and women in uniform.

When asked who has their best interests at heart — Obama or President George W. Bush — a higher percentage of respondents picked Bush, though Bush has lost ground over time. About half of the respondents said Bush has their best interests at heart this year, the same percentage as last year but a decline from 69 percent in 2004.

Nearly one-third of respondents — including eight out of 10 black service members — said they are optimistic about their incoming boss.

In keeping with previous surveys, nearly half of the respondents described their political views as conservative or very conservative.  Slightly more than half said they consider themselves Republicans, 22 percent independents and 13 percent Democrats.

Obama Will Not Move This Much Right

Obama on his way to moving right since he is clueless to what is going on, will not tamper with the lefts agenda on abortion.

I don’t get how you can be Pro capital punishment but anti-abortion.  A life is a life right?  The right sounds confused that is what I hear the left saying!

It's funny how the left says that if we are pro-life we should be against the death penalty but when the conservatives turn the argument around on them, "if you are against the death penalty then you should be against abortion", well then they are two completely different subjects.  It's whatever suits them at the time. 

How come all the lefties want people on death row to live, but wish to murder unborn babies?  A life is a life right?
