The economy continues to tank. In spite of the government stepping in (or taking over) the banks and auto industry. The economic stimulus bill that Obama stated was desperately needed - right away - to create millions of jobs and help bolster the economy was a bust. Exactly what did it stimulate besides good feelings for the politicians that voted for it? Just where are those "shovel-ready jobs," Mr. Obama? Nationwide unemployment is nearing 10%.
It doesn't take an economic genius to realize one solution - guaranteed to work. Allow taxpayers to keep more of their own money! Slash taxes! When people have extra money in their pocket, they will spend it.
Unlike the economic stimulus bill (aka: the porkulus bill), people did not use monies they received from the government (which were actually taxpayer dollars being returned to taxpayers AND those who pay no taxes) to purchase material goods or jolt the economy as the government expected. With good reason - people were, and still are, fearful after witnessing the reckless spending path the Obama Administration has embarked upon. Trillions here, trillions there. It all adds up - to massive national debt with little to show except huge tax increases coming soon, as well as increased inflation. Should Obamacare become a reality, things will even get worse. Americans will be saddled with more debt and less services.
However, if our government and the neophyte man-child posing as a president got smart and slashed taxes across the board - our economy would improve. Taxpayers would see a bigger paycheck on paydays. They would get used to it - and more confident. They would start to spend - they would buy that plasma television they always wanted, or a new home, or maybe take a trip. Businesses would start to see increased activity. Consumers would be consuming! Businesses eventually would need to produce more goods to keep up with demand. They would hire more people.
(As a side note, does anyone wonder how many jobs have been lost due to a higher minimum wage requirement? Many small businesses let people go once this requirement became law, due to the fact they couldn't afford to keep as many workers on staff. So, businesses have to pay more, but employ less people. Why does it always seem as though every Democratic plan has a detrimental outcome? However, to the Dems, that just doesn't matter. What is important is that a higher minimum wage sounded good! Who cares that many people lost their jobs because of it!)
When people are allowed to keep more of their own money, good things happen to all. The economy WOULD rebound.
Where we stand now, Obama & Co. have America headed for a train wreck. Higher taxes are NOT the answer. Obamacare will help add to the misery. Cap and Trade (aka: Cap and Tax) would further cripple businesses and shut companies down. The coal industry is one classic example. Is that what our government wants?
Look at what has happened locally in our own state. Kohls Corporation recently announced it is shutting down it's distribution center in Menomonee Falls - moving 250 jobs out of state. Could it be because Governor "I never met a tax I didn't like" Doyle and his fellow anti-business Dems have created such a horrendous business climate in Wisconsin? Businesses seem to be targets - viewed as money sources for our government, not as places that provide a livelihood for hundreds and thousands of Wisconsinites. When Governor Doyle squeezes too hard to make those businesses pay more and more to the government, they leave. Look at General Motors in Janesville (3,500 jobs lost), or Quad Graphics (140 jobs lost), and Briggs & Stratton (430 jobs lost) as recent examples. These companies found the cost of doing business too high in Wisconsin, so they left.
It all comes down to taxes. Taxes in our state - and country - are too high. Our politicians spend too much. The local, state, and federal governments need to become fiscally responsible and rein in spending. They need to draft budgets that are realistic and not loaded down with pork and other pet projects that are completely unnecessary.
Americans need to contact their representatives right now. Republican and conservative lawmakers need to hear from us! (Democrats are a lost cause, as raising taxes is embedded in their genetic make-up. Raising taxes is the only solution Democrats have for addressing any problems.) Cutting taxes will be a pivotal issue in the next election cycle. 2010 is coming up fast. 2010 is not looking good for the Democrats and Obama. Republicans have an excellent chance of taking back the House and the Senate, leaving Obama a lame duck for his remaining two years. America has a chance - and our politicians need to hear from us that taxes need to be lowered!
